The Snipers Corner – 60 and under: Part 2

Justin Rosser January 25, 2021

This article will be based off of standard fantasy scoring systems as I look at some potential flower buds ready to blossom that are less than 60% owned in Fantasy Hockey leagues. Remember, these aren’t guarantees, just potential diamonds in the rough.

NOTE: Try not to add Tampa players as they will only have 2 games played this week with one game POSTPONED against Carolina.

Pius Suter Chicago C, LW: This is both a gamble with upside pick and a situational add for week two. Pius is only 7% rostered in Yahoo leagues and ranked 322, but he is playing on Chicago’s top line between Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. Hovering around the 15:30 minute range of time on ice, the top line has begun to pay off, with 3 goals in his last game. He does not get many hits/blocked shots, but if you need someone who will get points, why not take a shot?

The other reason I would suggest making this add for this week is Chicago plays 4 games and those games are staggered from what seems like a STACKED Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule around the league. Chicago plays on the days when all the other teams are taking a break, Wednesday, Friday are gold as you probably don’t have many players to roster for the quiet days of the week. The one negative thing is DeBrincat just got placed under COVID-19 Protocol on Monday. So he will miss, at minimum, the next two road games which stacks the top line a little less, but he still has Patrick Kane! Go take a week or two sample on this guy and keep watching what line he plays on.

Joe Pavelski Dallas C, RW:  I know I’m breaking the “code” of the article being 68% owned, but look if Pavelski is available in your leagues. He just earned the second star of the week, with 3 goals and 4 assists in TWO GAMES! Not to mention, both games he got the game winning goal, he still lays the hits on with 5 total in two games. With Tyler Seguin out, Pavelski will be used more often for the majority of the season and Roope Hintz should have an increased role as well.

Remember, with missing the first four games of the season due to postponement, Dallas players will have to make up time for those missed games. You might get the benefit of a condensed schedule later in the season, sounds amazing to me!

Kevin Hayes Philadelphia C: I can’t believe he is still under 60% owned, as Philadelphia’s top center he is currently ranked 75th overall. While this won’t be permanent, given Sean Couturier’s return date from injury within the next two weeks, be slightly wary of your add. That being said, I still think Hayes has value on the second line and could play well enough to keep a spot on your roster. For this week’s matchups, it’s a great roster add. The Flyers have 4 games this week, so he will get lots of time to get on the ice and produce. He is sitting on 3 goals, 5 assists and a +2 rating on the year over a span of 6 games so far. Go get a top line player added to your roster, for the week at least, you can’t go wrong.

Max Domi Columbus C, LW: Domi is currently getting dropped more than added with 49% ownership. His horrible start to the year has made current owners want off the ride. Ranking at 587 after 6 games and only 2 assists to show for it, I understand, but “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” Domi has now moved up to the big line, and guess who will be joining him next week on that line? Patrick Laine! When you get a goal scorer like that on his line he is bound to improve and benefit.

This add is not based off stats, but it’s more of a crystal ball prediction. If you want to wait and gamble later in the week, I’m sure he will be there. He should increase his time on the ice and could still be productive on the first line without stud, Laine, there yet. Like I tell myself all the time, you GOTTA RISK IT IF YOU WANT THE BISCUIT.

Brandon Tanev Pittsburgh LW, RW: Tanev is not a pretty boy add, but he is 100% worth being on your squad. Only 43% rostered while ranked 77th Tanev is not a big “point getter” having 2 goals and an assist over 6 games and currently playing on Pittsburgh’s 3rd line. You are getting him for one reason and one reason alone, his HITS; he has an astounding 38 hits in those 6 games. I don’t know if those numbers are truly sustainable, but for now with Tanev on your roster, I can guarantee you are winning the hits category.
